Midweek Motivation
How is it only Wednesday? Below we have some questions answered from our Sunday Scaries Q and A to get you through. Followed by a cocktail, of course.
Q. How do I start trusting someone again after being cheated on and lied to?
Nursing the trauma of being betrayed is a really overwhelming and exhausting process, and all you can do is be patient; with yourself and your heart. Whether you need to find an outlet where you can release the frustrations that you’ve held on to from the betrayal or talk to someone about it to the point where you feel you no longer need to dissect it much longer, getting that heavy weight off your chest is the first and foremost step to make! After that, it’s making the small adjustments that open you up to new opportunities and relationships- with caution, of course.
The relationships you enter shortly after should be ones you feel safe and secure in, and should give you the space and nurturing to build up your trust again. No person with good intentions would ever rush your process, especially after such an emotional betrayal. It all starts with believing in the good in yourself and in people, and continuing on knowing that one bad experience does not a life make!
Q. Is sharing, money or assets, a good idea for a relationship or does it complicate things?
This one is really circumstantial as it really depends on both you and your partner to navigate and decide. What works for one couple, as we’ve seen and heard time and again, doesn’t work for another. It’s always smart to keep aside something for yourself so you’re never fully dependent on someone thereby creating a power imbalance in the relationship and severing it that way. Independence in a relationship in this regard is actually quite conducive to building a healthy foundation without one partner resenting or controlling the other. Of course, it’s okay to celebrate success and allow yourself to be treated, but it’s good to always remember that you are self sufficient!
Q. When do you know it’s time to let go and stop fighting for a partner?
Usually, if you’re questioning it and wondering, it’s probably time to let go. If you start having doubts, from a valid place and not insecurity, it’s good to listen to yourself. Your body usually is a great tell in terms of when something feels right and when something feels wrong. Of course, there are instances when we are led astray by our insecurities and create false narratives to suit those insecurities, so it’s important to be able to differentiate the two!
If a relationship is having more hurdles and arguments than moments of love and happiness, that’s an indicator. If hostility or fear become more commonplace than support and security, that’s an indicator. Watch for the signs and base your judgment off of that, because no one can truly know the intricate details of your relationship more than you and combining that knowledge with your understanding of where your boundaries lie, will help you make the best decision.
