One of my favorite ways to unwind after a jam-packed summer week is to sit down and remind myself of all that I am grateful for. Things big, and things small, and just sitting with your thoughts, being still, is sometimes the best self-care we can give ourselves; gratitude and remembering the important things in life. A big part of venturing out on a positive mental health journey is positive introspection- think the opposite of Sunday scaries.
Instead of going over all the things you regret and wish you hadn’t said/done, think instead of all the wonderful things you are proud of, the incredible people who surround you, the small acts of kindness you experienced/performed, and anything else that may cross your mind in gratitude. It seems like a small thing, to be done with quickly and never thought of again, but if you really sit still, meditate, and let your mind explore the crevices of gratitude, you’ll be surprised at how much you can positively influence your day and your life.
So, as you wake, after you have your coffee/tea/matcha, find a comfortable place, get into a seated position, close your eyes, and really focus on every small thing you can think of. When you are done, you will feel lighter, happier, and more uplifted, looking forward to a fresh, new week ahead. At this point, you might want to journal, as we suested last week, in any way that you feel inspired to do so.
